Studio Stroll: These are a few of my favorite things (and people, and places)

I am completely in love with the River Arts District.  Here are a few of my favorite things.

_______FRIDAY, June 10, 2011_______________________________

4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.  ACTIVITY Mobile Art Lab “Yarnstorming” at  Amboy Road Park [everyone-friendly]

Grab your knitting needles and crochet hooks and join the Mobile Art Lab - part of the City of Asheville Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Arts Department – for a Yarnstorming on Friday, June 10 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m.
at Amboy Road Park. The event is free and open to all ages. Music and refreshments will be available.

5:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m.  ART OPENING Cleaster Cotton Exhibit at Pink Dog Creative

Also, while you’re at Pink Dog Creative, stop by The Artery to see this amazing GROUP EXHIBIT “The Space Between” with works of Akira Satake, Barbara Zaretsky, Brian Boggs, and Barbara Fisher.

“What is not there becomes, in its absence, as important to the meaning of the piece as what remains.”

7:30 and 10:00 p.m. THEATRE  The Witches Quorum at The Magnetic Theatre

Set in 1617 Jamestown, on the eve of Pocahontas’s fictitious North American tour, The Witches’ Quorum follows the struggles of Mistress Hibbins (the witch-lady from The Scarlet Letter) and Cassy (the slave-woman from Uncle Tom’s Cabin) as they attempt to flee their oppressive surroundings and arrive in the mythical land of Croatoan, where they believe they will find freedom for all witches.

10:00 a.m. -4:00 p.m. SPECIAL EXHIBIT FACES OF ASHEVILLE PHOTO DOCUMENTARY EXHIBIT at the Glen Rock Depot, next to The Magnetic Field

Faces of Asheville: A Community Photo Documentary will exhibit at Glen Rock Depot at 372 Depot St. Saturday June 11, and Sunday, June 12, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. during the River Arts District Studio Stroll.  The exhibit will be open during Saturday afternoons in June thereafter.  Admission and parking are free.

LUNCH Next door to Faces of Asheville, The Magnetic Field will be open special hours on Sunday for the Studio Stroll, serving delicious brunch, lunch and dinner.  372 Depot Street.

7:30 and 10:00 p.m. THEATRE  The Witches Quorum at The Magnetic Theatre

15 Minutes After Dusk OUTDOOR CINEMA at The Wedge Brewery CHANGE IN SCHEDULE, PLEASE READ

Enjoy a nice cold local beer, some Bandido’s Burritos and “The Big Lebowski.”  Bring your lawn chairs and you might want to get there a bit early.  Seems this is one popular movie!  Due to weather Big Lebowski will be shown next Saturday, June 18, NOT this Saturday June 11.
